The Death of Medusa 100% silk scarf (square)
The Death of Medusa 100% silk scarf (square)
100% silk twill square scarf printed with an illustration consisting of medusa's head and snakes. Each face shows a slightly different expression as she realizes her fate. This design looks great when folded on the diagonal and worn as a head scarf, tied around the neck or face, worn as a shawl or even as a belt or waist cover. There are a lot of videos online for styling inspiration
This design was a long time in the making. Although it looks like a mirrored image, each section was hand-drawn. Each snake is unique and the faces change from aggressive to confused, to scared, to doomed, to dead. A classic greek border surrounds the scene as a light burst from athena's shield radiates from the center of the design, outward. A dark image to be sure, but I used a vivd pallet to ensure a dynamic interplay between the elements as the fabric drapes. I imagined a kaleidoscope and a zoetrope combined and tried to tell a story as the design rotates. This scarf is part of a larger project incorporating my personal photography and illustrations into interesting and new textile patterns
